Privacy & Terms

Last updated 10 August 2026

The short version: Globe Quest has no accounts, no ads and nothing to buy. Your child's name, progress, high score and stickers are saved inside your own browser and never sent anywhere. We do use Google Analytics to count how many people play and which modes they choose — anonymous totals about the game, never anything about your child.

Privacy Policy

What we collect

Globe Quest has no sign-up, no login, no contact form and no server of our own that receives information about players. We show no advertising and sell nothing.

We do use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the game is used overall — whether anyone is playing at all, which of the mini-games get picked, and which levels people give up on. It tells us things like "412 runs of the Daily Challenge this week", never who played them. Specifically, it records:

  • that a page was opened, and roughly where in the world from (country/city level, worked out from your IP address, which Google does not give to us);
  • your device type, browser and screen size;
  • which site or link sent you here;
  • four events from the game itself: a run started, a level completed, a run ended, and the share button being tapped — each with the mode, level number and score.

What it never receives: your child's name, their avatar, their sticker book, their saved progress, or anything else typed into the game. Nothing from the save described below is ever sent to Google or to us. There is no user ID we could use to look up an individual child, and we could not identify a player from this data if we tried.

Google processes this on our behalf and is a data controller for it in its own right. Their handling is covered by Google's privacy policy. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker or Google's own opt-out add-on will stop it, and the game plays exactly the same with it blocked — we have made sure of that.

What is saved, and where

The game saves your child's progress so they can pick up where they left off. That save lives in your browser's own storage (localStorage), on your device, and is readable only by this website in this browser. It holds:

  • the player names and avatars you type in — up to six players;
  • levels completed, stickers collected, explorer rank and high scores;
  • which places have been found or missed, so the Tricky Places mode can revisit them;
  • your settings, such as sound on or off and which difficulty was picked.

None of this leaves your device — not to us, not to Google, not to anyone. Clearing your browser's site data, using private browsing, or switching to a different browser or device will remove it — which also means a save can be lost that way. There is no backup, because a backup would need a server and we do not have one.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets its own cookies (named _ga and similar) to tell a returning visitor from a new one. They hold a random number, not a name, and they expire on their own. That is the only cookie Globe Quest causes to be set — there is no advertising cookie, no cross-site tracking and nothing shared with any ad network.

The localStorage described above is separate and is functional storage, used only to hold the save you asked the game to keep.

Working offline

The game installs a service worker, which stores a copy of its own files — the page, the code, the styles, the icons — in your browser so it opens instantly and works without an internet connection. It caches only Globe Quest's own files and sends nothing back.

The tip jar

The title screen has an optional ☕ tip jar for grown-ups. Nothing in the game is locked behind it and nothing unlocks if you use it. If you choose to tap it, it offers two things: a link that opens Buy Me a Coffee in a new tab, and a UPI ID with a QR code you can scan in your own banking app. The QR code is drawn by the game itself, on your device.

Any payment happens entirely on that other service, under their privacy policy and terms, not ours — we never see your card, bank or contact details, and we receive no information about your child or their progress. If you never tap the tip jar, the only connection the game makes is the analytics tag described above.

Children's privacy

Globe Quest is made for children aged roughly 4–10 and is designed so that a child cannot share anything about themselves. There is no chat, no comments, no uploads, no profile and no way to contact another player. We collect no personal information from a child: the analytics described above measure the game, not the player, and carry no name, no contact detail and no identifier we could tie back to a person. We do not use the data for advertising, we do not build profiles, and we never sell or share it.

The one field a player can type into is the name on their profile. It is stored only on your device and is never sent to us, but as with any name shown on a screen, a first name or a nickname is the sensible choice.

Your rights

Laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and COPPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you — to see it, correct it or have it deleted. We hold no personal data about you or your child, so in practice there is nothing for us to hand over or erase; if you believe we do hold something about you, write to the address below and we will look. Blocking the analytics tag, as described above, stops the counting entirely. The data on your own device is fully under your control: rename or remove a player inside the game, or clear this site's data in your browser settings to erase everything at once.

Changes to this policy

If the game ever changes in a way that affects any of this, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. If a future version ever collected anything about a player personally, we would say so here plainly and ask first.

Terms of Use

Using the game

Globe Quest is free to play, for as long as you like, at home or in a classroom. You may share the link with anyone. Please don't copy the game and pass it off as your own, resell it, or wrap it in advertising.

No guarantees

The game is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We can't promise it will always be available, work on every device or be free of mistakes, and we are not liable for any loss arising from using it. In particular: saved progress can be lost — clearing your browser's data, private browsing, or a device reset will take the sticker book with it, and we have no copy to restore.

Accuracy

Borders and coastlines come from Natural Earth (1:110m, public domain), and facts are written for children. It is a game, not a reference work or a political statement about any border.

Tips

A tip is a voluntary thank-you, not a purchase. It buys no features, unlocks nothing, and is not refundable — please only send one if you're happy to.
